Our NLHF supported design presents G F and Mary Watts as independent artists, as well as partners in philanthropy influencing each other’s artistic processes. We created 3 individual galleries, with a narrative of making and production, contextualising their work and enabling visitors to immerse themselves in this spectacular Victorian world.

Compton Gallery provides an intimate setting within which to explore these themes. GF Watts’ Studio recreates the atmosphere of his workshop-studio – as if the artist had been working there and just left. The Mary Watts Gallery presents Mary’s oeuvre and her design approach as a collage of related design ideas within the context of a working environment. The variety and richness of her designs is communicated through handling/touch objects.
