ZMMA restored, remodelled and extended the Grade 2* listed Arts & Crafts gallery buildings of Watts Gallery in Compton, Surrey. Part-funded by NLHF & English Heritage, the project includes refurbished and new galleries, archive & education spaces including a separate ‘Art for All’ learning centre building, an artist-in-residence studio, and picture and object stores, alongside the conservation of the historic building fabric.
Our design united disparate and physically inaccessible parts into a coherent sequence of interconnected gallery spaces with associated facilities, allowing great curatorial display flexibility and interpretation as well as achieving full wheelchair accessibility to all parts of the landscape and public parts of the building.
