Part of the NLHF funded Phase 4 of the National Museum of Scotland Masterplan, these two new adjoining galleries, housed in the Grade 1 listed building, form a permanent home for the Museum’s world-class collections relating to ancient Egyptian and East Asia cultures.
Both galleries are populated by characters; some named, others unknown people who have left their legacy through the objects and costumes they once owned. In the Egypt Gallery, the visitor finds themself experiencing the space as would an archaeologist first exploring a tomb complex, whereas the East Asia gallery is more informal, based around a central space of shared-culture themes with a spread-out cluster of sculptures and objects on plinths.
