ZMMA were appointed to the Exhibition Design framework for the National Archives in Kew. Immersive, theatrical and playful with atmospheric environments and layered interpretation, our exhibition designs create moments of encounter with the unexpected, encouraging curiosity and engagement with the collections.
This recent exhibition enabled visitors to step into the world of 1920s Britain and experience what life was really like, beyond the ‘Roaring Twenties’ that you may have heard about. We created an intimate setting using changes in light and projection to bring the exhibition to life. Displaying original framed artworks and ephemera alongside graphic reproductions and projections, features included a diverse collection of documents and stories drawing on international peace treaties, textile samples, lonely hearts adverts and much more. There was also the opportunity to step into a recreation of a nightclub – the infamous 43 Club in Soho – with all the grit, glamour and associated sights and sounds.
