Poole Museum and Scaplen’s Court

The ‘Our Museum’ project for Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council aims to conserve and open up the medieval Wool Hall at Poole Museum, create new ground floor and first floor maritime galleries co-created with audiences, improve public facilities, and increase earned income; the Museum will be transformed into a world class cultural centre and community hub that greatly enriches the experience of Poole Quay and Old Town by the people of Poole and visitors.

During the concept design development, ZMMA worked closely with the Museum project team looking at objects, exploring themes and narratives and developing concept proposals which gave a schematic to the arrangement and adjacencies of themes and objects within the space available. As part of this process, we questioned ways in which the layout of the space and the positioning of the collection objects can support the gallery themes, narratives and, crucially, the key messages for each gallery.

These will be highly interactive galleries with many interactives from low-tech, to film, projection and virtual.
